Sophisticated Sled, Christmas Card, Stampin' Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. I know I said I wasn't going to do another Christmas in July card but I just couldn't help myself. I saw this card on Pinterest and just had to make it. You can see the card here. There was no link so I did a little searching and found the site and at that site is a video on how to make the card. You can see that here. Please read on to see how I made the card. I did make a little change.

The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Crumb Cake card stock. It opens on the right and the fold is on the left.

I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the Perennial Lavender" 12" x 12" package. The original card piece was cut at 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". I didn't want to cut my sheet like that because it was my last sheet and it would screw up the measurements for future cards. I cut my 12" x 12" DSP at 4" and get three 4" strips. It's just more economical feasible this way. I taped the DSP to the Crumb Cake base.

Next came the layers that the sled will be on. The Crumb Cake piece measured 3-3/8" x 4-5/8" and the Basic White layer measured 3-1/4" x 4-1/2". That piece was textured using the "Timber" embossing folder. The piece on the original card sounded like it was a piece that was shimmery and already textured, if I remember right. The textured piece was glued to the Crumb Cake piece. Dimensionals were added to the back and the piece was centered on the front of the card.

Then came the fun part, all the die cutting. The pieces are from the "Sophisticated Sled" bundle. I cut the runners of the sled (the frame) using a piece of Basic Black card stock. The video didn't mention the color. I would think that Early Espresso would be nice too.

The body of the sled was die cut using Pecan Pie card stock and it was glued to the sled runner.

The greenery was cut next using Mossy Meadow and Old Olive card stock. It was set in place on the upper part of the sled and offset a little.

Basic White card stock was used for the skates. I used a double-sided sticky sheet for the laces and for the "silver" blades of the skates. I affixed the silver to the bottom of the skates and slipped the strings in the slots on the skates.  A 4" piece of Baker's Twine was cut and affixed to the back of the slates using Dimensionals. Make sure you don't put a large Dimensional on the upper part of the right skate, it needs to overlap the other skate. Once the strings were attached the middle of the string was affixed at the top, in the center of the greenery using a glue dot. Then the skates were set in place. 

Taking two strands of white Baker's Twine I tied a bow leaving about a 2-1/2" tails but I think they could have been longer, maybe 3" would be good. The bow was set in place using two small glue dots.

I had some red dots left from an old Paper Pumpkin kit and I set them in place on the greenery and the card was done.

It's not too often I make a card with no words on it. But this card doesn't need any, does it? I really like how it turned out. And I hope you can see why I just had to make one.
