Thoughtful Journey, Simply Said, Birthday Card, Stampin' Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I have a card to share with you. I saw the card on the internet but I can't find it now. If you run across it please let me know so I can give the original designer credit. There were no instructions on how to make the card so I had to wing it. Please read on to see how it was made.

The base of the card is a folded half-sheet, it opens on the right and the fold is on the left. 

A 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Pretty Peacock card stock was cut and then textured using the "Exposed Brick" embossing folder. I glued that to the card base.

The Designer Series Paper (DSP) is from the "Thoughtful Journey" 6" x 6" stack. I cut the strips as follows. Be sure to cut them in order or the picture won't look right once assembled. The left piece measures 7/8" x 3-3/4". The center piece is cut at 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" and the third strip is cut at 7/8" x 3-3/4". 

Once the pieces are cut I took the center piece and I marked the top center with a pencil dot at 4-3/8".  I used that as a guide line to where I need to line up my punch. I used the "Modern Oval" punch and cut the top part so it was rounded. I slipped the piece of DSP into the punch on one side. I didn't slide it in like you would normally do. You only want the punch to round the top edge. Once it's slipped in on one side or the other, make sure it's equal on the top and bottom or the rounded part on the top won't look even. 

After the punching was done the pieces were glued in place on the front of the card. I started with the two side pieces. The are 1/4" from the edge of the Pretty Peacock piece.  Then the center piece was lined up and glued in place.

The words are from the "Simply Said" set using black Memento ink. I punched them out using the "Modern Oval" punch. I also punched out a Fresh Freesia piece too for the layer under the word piece. I taped the two pieces together, leaving a little bit of the Fresh Freesia showing at the bottom. Dimensionals were added to the back and the piece was set aside.

I took some twine and added it to the card. I took a piece of twine/linen about 18" long and added it to the card. A glue dot was added to the area where the words would go, about the center of that area. I stuck the end of the twine/linen to the glue dot and then made a loop that was long enough to go beyond the oval. I set my oval over the area to make sure the twine/linen could be seen. I made three different sized loops and I did add another glue dot to hold down the twine/linen.  

The words were added next and the card was done.

I really like the way this card turned out. Some embellishments could be added but I didn't because I liked the clean look. I didn't want eyes to roam to the embellishments, I like how my eyes jump from the word piece to the top of the center piece and then around to the rest of the card without getting stuck in one spot. I really like this layout. It was fun and easy to do. I think it would be great to use some of the strips of DSP that I have that would only be big enough for the center part and use card stock for the outer strips. Several possibilities with this layout.
