Simply Said, Cheerful Daisies, Flowering Zinnias, Birthday Card, Stampin' Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I have a birthday card to share with you. Please read on to see how it was made. I saw a card on the internet that looked like something I wanted to make, though I did change it a lot. You can see that card here. There is no direct link so you're going to have to scroll down quite a bit to find it. There were no measurements so I had to wing it. Please read on to see how I made today's card. 

The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock. It opens on the bottom and the fold is on the top.

I cut a 3/4" piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the "Flowering Zinnias" 12" z 12" package. I had a scrap piece that wasn't long enough to go across the 5-1/2" area so I cut the piece I had in half and the ends are hidden under the rest of the layers. My pieces hidden under there are about 2" long. It was a perfect way to get the look I wanted with what I had and I got to use up a really tiny piece of scrap. 

Next I worked on the square layers. The Basic White layer was cut at 3-1/4" x 3-1/4". The olive DSP was cut at 3" x 3". The Melon Mambo piece was cut at 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" and the floral DSP was cut at 2-1/2" x 2-1/2". I taped all of those layers together. Dimensionals were added to the back and the piece was set in place on the front of the card. It's about 1/2" from the top and bottom edges and 1-1/8" from the side edges. 

I cut the flowers from the "Cheerful Daisies" bundle using Basic White card stock. I cut the backing piece, and the two petal piece for both flowers. The leaves came along for the ride, the are part of the large cluster of 3 flowers and leaves. Once they were cut I glued them together in the center area of each flower. I colored the leaves in using my light Old Olive Blends pen, being careful to color only on the top layer of the leaves. 

Now what I did next doesn't show because it was so hideous that I had to fix it. I had taken my Melon Mambo ink pad and my Blending brush and lightly scrubbed on the color on the two flowers. They had a pink look to them and it didn't go with the colors on the DSP even though it was a color in the DSP. Lighter isn't always the same. SO I took my light Melon Mambo Blends pen and carefully colored the top layer of petals. Since I only glued them in the middle I was able to slip a piece of card stock under it to protect the other petals.  I glued the small flower down first. The large flower was set in place using Dimensions in the center area only. I added a little glue to the leaves and slipped them under the large flower.

The words are from the "Simply Said" set and were stamped using Melon Mambo ink. I think Old Olive would have looked better but I didn't think of that until the glue was set. I had used glue on the left and Dimensionals on right. I set the word piece in place and the card was done. 

It's so much better looking than it was when I had scrubbed on some ink on the petals. It was too ugly to even take a pic of it before I changed it.

I do like this layout and I'm now pleased with the way it looks.
