Simply Said, Adventurous Sky, Masculine Birthday Card, Stampin' Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. I found a card on the internet that I actually obsessed about. I passed it over a couple of times because it takes longer to make than I like to spend on a card. But I couldn't get it out of my head so I broke down and worked it into a special time slot so I could make it. You can see the original card here. I didn't do it justice but I got it close.  There were no measurements there so please read on to see how I made the card.

The base of the card is a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of Smoky Slate card stock. I will be building on this piece.

On top of the base is a 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" piece of Basic Black card stock. I taped it to the Smoky Slate piece.

The Basic White piece measures 4" x 10-1/2" and folded in half so it measures 4" x 5-1/4".  This piece will open on the bottom and the fold will be on the top. 

Next I cut a piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the "Take to the Sky" 12" x 12" package. I cut it to measure 5-1/8" x 3-7/8". I cut this piece from the upper right tip to the left side about 1-1/2" up from the bottom. I taped this to the front of the Basic White piece. Note here that the DSP is 1/8" from the bottom and two sides.

I took my Blending Brush and scrubbed on some Balmy Blue ink. Then I took my Aqua Painter and some Azure Afternoon ink to make some splats on the piece. I had put the ink on a piece of backing from my Dimensionals. I save those things for using glue and ink on. I could use my silicone mat but then I have to wash it.  I know, it's an all day job to wash it! LOL I would rather use something one more time (or more) before I throw it away.  I even save water using those pieces of backing! 

I stamped the word piece next. I was not sure how I would measure this strip so what I did was I cut a 3/4" x 11" strip just to be safe. I stamped the words from the "Simply Said" set using black Memento ink. I just set the word piece across the front of the card and marked the sides and then cut them on my paper cutter. I did like having this strip long so I could get my words centered instead of trying to stamp them centered and hope for the best. Once the word piece was trimmed I just set it on top of the card where I think it will be placed and I splattered on some Smoky Slate ink the way I did with the Azure Afternoon. I forgot to mention that I added a couple of drops of ink on the Dimensional backing sheet and I squeezed the Aqua Painter until the bristles were wet. Then I flicked the ink on the whole Basic White piece with the DSP and words on it. Once the splattering was done I taped the Basic White piece to the Basic Black piece. 

I got out my "Adventurous Sky" bundle and stamped the large plane, one large cloud, three medium clouds and one small cloud using black Memento ink. I cut them all using the matching die. 

The die cut pieces were colored in. I used Azure Afternoon and Balmy Blue on the clouds and Azure Afternoon and Smoky Slate ink on the plane. I used my Blender Pen for that. 

Now to assemble the rest of the card. The word piece was set in place first using Dimensionals. Then the upper clouds. The large one was set in place using Dimensionals and a medium one was taped behind it. Don't press down on the large cloud until you get the medium one slipped under it to where you like it.

The airplane was added next with Dimensionals. Again, don't press down on it until you are done getting the medium and small clouds in place behind the plane.

The last cloud is set in place with Dimensionals and is set in front of the airplane tire. 

I added a couple of black "Candy Dots" (retired) to each end of the words and the card was done.

I am glad I made this card. It turned out well and if you don't compare them you won't notice the difference.
