My card is a twofer! When you cut the Designer Series Paper (DSP) this way you end up with two background. So I will be saving one for another day.
The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Balmy Blue card stock. My card opens on the right and the fold is on the left.
I took a piece of the DSP from the new "Dandy Designs" 12" x 12" package. There's 48 sheets in this package. Enough to prevent me from hoarding it all yet too much for me to use al of it! LOL But it's a challenge and I'm going to see how much of it I can use up. I cut the DSP at 4" x 5-1/4" I cut two pieces. Then I stacked them together and set them on my counter. I lined up the upper left corner to the bottom right corner on my cutter and I cut the DSP on the diagonal. Now I had four pieces. I like to take a piece of card stock that is just a hair smaller than 4" x 5-1/4" for the backing. I usually do my cutting on the shorter side of the 4" and 5-1/4" mark so the piece is just a hair smaller. Next I taped the DSP to this piece of card stock. Then it was taped to the front of the card.
I die cut a Coastal Cabana circle using the stitched circle die from the "Stylish Dies" set. I used the largest circle for this and the next largest I cut using a piece of Basic White card stock. I took my blending brush and scrubbed on some Balmy Blue ink for some highlight behind the owl.
The owl is from the "Adorable Owls" set and was stamped using black Memento ink. It was fussy cut out and then colored. I used Balmy Blue and Coastal Cabana Blends pens. Dark for the Balmy Blue and light for the Coastal Cabana. The light features were colored in using the light Crumb Cake Blends and the darker area of the owl was colored in using the light Soft Suede Blends pen. The feet and beak were colored in using the light Pumpkin Pie Blends pen and the eyes were colored in using the light Balmy Blue Blends pen. I did add a bit of dark Crumb Cake under the eyes but stopped when I saw that it was just too dark, so I just colored under the eyes again with the light Crumb Cake Blends pen.
On the Coastal Cabana piece I stamped the words from the "Go To Greetings" set using black Memento ink. Then I taped the two circles together. I set them in place on the front of the card using Dimensionals.
Dimensionals were added behind the owl and it was set in place on the Basic White circle. And the card was done.
Doesn't the title "Adorable Owls" fit? It is absolutely adorable!
Thank you SO very much for taking your time to stop in and see today's birthday card,
Wanda
