The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock. I started out with a half-sheet of Real Red card stock but it was just too much. The Basic White helped tone it down. This card opens on the bottom and the fold is on the top.
I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Real Red and taped it to the front of the card.
Then I cut a 4-3/8" x 2-7/8" piece of Mint Macaron card stock and a 4-1/8" x 2-5/8" piece of Basic White card stock for the layer. On that layer I taped a 3-7/8" x 1-5/8" piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the "Rings of Love" 12" x 12" package. I was looking through the paper and wasn't all that thrilled at what I saw for use on this card until I turned the papers over and there it was, this fun plaid type paper. SO I ran with it. That is why I used Mint Macaron on the layer. I taped the DSP to the small Basic White piece.
Next I die cut the oval using the die from the "Fabulous Frames" set using Basic White card stock. I taped the oval to the frame using scotch tape on the back. Then I die cut a Blushing Bride oval and glued just the frame part on top of the Basic White oval frame. I scrubbed on a little Mint Macaron ink on the center of the frame but it doesn't show up well on the photo.
Once I had the oval done, I set it on top of the Basic White piece with the DSP taped to it so I could see where the words were going to go. The words are from the "Very Best Occasions" set using black Memento ink.
The hippo is from the "Hippiest Hippo" Sale-a-Bration set and was stamped using black Memento ink. I die cut it with the matching die set. Then I colored it in using the light and dark Gray Granite Blends pens. I used the dark Petal Pink Blends pen on the nose and toe nails. And I used the light Real Red Blends pen on the flower and the dark Mint Macron Blends pen on the leaf. I also used the Wink of Stella pen on the flower to give it a bit of a sparkle. I set the hippo in place on top of the oval using Dimensionals. I added the oval to the rectangle using Dimensionals and I added the rectangle using Dimensionals too.
The flowers were die cut using the die from the matching hippo set. I used Daffodil Delight card stock on them. I added a dot of glue behind them and set them in place on the Real Red part of the card. I also added a dot of Wink of Stella to the center of each flower. And that was it, the card was done.
This was a very fun card to make and it doesn't hurt to have that hippo so darn cute either!!! LOL
Thank you SO very much for taking your time to see today's birthday card,
