Hand-Penned Petals, Thank You Card, 2021-2022 Stampin' Up! Catalog

I found this pretty card on Pinterest and thought I'd give it a try. You can see the original card here. I did click through to the link.

The base of the card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock.  You will also need a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" piece of Basic White card stock. Information on the original card read that the checkered paper was from the "Pattern Party" Designer Series Paper (DSP) package. I couldn't find it in the catalog, it may be retired or I just didn't look good enough.  Anyway, I didn't have that DSP but I did have a piece of card stock that had the retired Buffalo Plaid stamped on it, so I used that.  I cut it to 2-1/8" x 5-1/8" and it probably should have been cut to 1-7/8" x 5-1/8".  I also cut a Basic Black piece of card stock at 2-3/8" x 5-1/8".  

The plaid piece was taped to the Basic Black layer and a piece of ribbon was wrapped around and taped on the backside. Then I slipped the end of the ribbon (still on the spool) under the taped on ribbon and tied a knot. Then I trimmed the end. It saves some ribbon doing it that way, you don't waste as much.  I took the Basic White layer and I set the plaid piece on top so I could see where the words were going to go. 

The words are from the "Hand-Penned Petals" set and were stamped using black Memento ink. Then the plaid piece was taped in place.

The flowers from the "Hand-Penned Petals" were stamped on Basic White using black Memento ink. I colored them with Blends pens. I used light Pumpkin Pie, Dark Daffodil Delight for the flower centers, light Highland Heather, Light Flirty Flamingo, light Daffodil Delight and dark Soft Sea Foam for the leaves and then some light Granny Apple Green for highlights on the leaves. Once the coloring was done, I die cut the piece.

Then I took a piece of Basic Black card stock and added the sticky backing to it so I could die cut the flower outline image and not have to try to glue it. I made the piece into a sticker. Could you imagine trying to glue that piece? Though there are some pretty easy ways to do it,  but it's still not fun! After die cutting the outlined flower image, I removed the backing and stick it to the colored flowers. I thought it would cover better than it did but it is what it is and the more I look at it, the more I like it. 

Dimensionals were added to the back of the 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" piece and was set in place on top of the card base. I added Dimensionals to the back of the flowers and set them in place on top of the plaid piece and the card was done.

I really like the looks of this card. I think it's all the black that makes it stand out. There's a couple of things that Stampin' Up! should always have, black and white checked DSP and black and white Polka Dotted DSP, oh and red and white polka dotted too. Just basic staples in card making, right? And I was surprised at how quick it was to make this card. The coloring was probably the longest part of making it and that really didn't take all that long either.
