The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock. On top of that is a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the "Well Suited" 12" x 12" package. I taped the piece in the middle area because I knew I had to remove it for the second cutting. After taping, I used the third smallest "Stitched Rectangle" die and die cut the center. I lined up all sides as best as I could to get it centered or to give the appearance of being centered!
After cutting I removed the DSP. I took the DPS and used the next size up "Rectangle Die" and centered it around the cut out area. I taped it in place with a couple pieces of Post It tape to hold it in place and I cut it out. The stitching doesn't show up so well on the DSP but it is there! Then the DSP was taped to the front of the card. You may want to put the DSP on top of the card first to make sure it all lines up. Mine was a hair off in centering and once I turned the piece around to the top was on the bottom and the bottom on the top it fit much better. So it's not perfectly centered, it just looks like it. After making sure I got the pieces on the right spot I taped it to the front of the card. Before you cut out the piece you could add a tiny piece of DSP to the top so you'd know which end was up. I didn't think of that until just now! DUH! Gotta love those "DUH" moments! LOL
Next came the words from the "Handsomely Suited" set. I stamped them using Pacific Point ink. My pad was a bit dry so it's not as solid as I would have liked it and I even stamped it in the Stamparatus. You almost have to use that to get the words straight. I put a scrap piece of copier paper on the front of the card and then stamped the words to make sure they were straight and centered. Then I stamped the words. But I didn't remember to check the edges of my stamp and I got ink by the "Have". UGH. And I had to stamp twice because the ink was too light. So I inked up the words again and I remembered to clean the edge but it was the wrong side. Again, UGH! So now I had this nice dark mark on my card. The first time it was light. So the words "now you did it" rang in my head. What to do? What to do? I had some colored sequins so I thought I'd use a royal blue one to cover that mark. It worked and I was hoping it wouldn't give it too much bling for a masculine card. I think it will work. It's just one sequin, any more and I think it would be too much. Oh and one more thing about the words. I covered the bottom word "Handsome". I didn't want that on my card. Not that the person receiving it isn't handsome but it just didn't seem right on a Father's Day card to someone who isn't my father.
So now onto the bowtie. I die cut it from a piece of DSP from the same "Well Suited" package. There's even an oval for the center of the tie to die cut. I cut out the bow and the center piece. Before I had added the words I was thinking of putting the bow on one of the corners but it gave it that "Hello Kitty" look so I decided to do the words first. After seeing the space that was created from masking off the "Handsome" on the words I realized I had a gap to fill. When I centered the stamp I included the "Handsome" in the space. But I think this was a happy accident. (I make a lot of those!). I added Dimensionals to the bottom of the bow and the bottom center of the bow and set it in place. Then I added the center of the bow. Before you stick the bow, make sure none of it sticks to the inside of the card. Once the bow was added, the card was done.
I like how it turned out. It's masculine looking and a perfect card for Father's Day. It would also make a great masculine birthday card too! This was fun to make and I can see myself using this layout again.
Thank you SO very much for taking your time today to see this easy Father's Day Card,
Wanda
