Senior Years, Friendship Card, 2020-2021 Stampin' Up! Catalog

It's not too often I make a card that is not cut the "regular" way.  But it's fun to step out of the box now and then.  I found this card on the internet.  You can see the original card here

Today I had lunch with a friend.  I don't do the heat well and since today was cooler we met for lunch.  We both are very cautious people.  We ordered our food at the drive up and parked our cars so our driver doors were across from each other.  And we were way more than 6' apart but we could still talk and hear each other.  There was a nice cool breeze on a totally overcast day.  We had our lunch and chatted and were together for over two hours.  It started to sprinkle and then the rain came.  We waited it out for a bit but it just didn't lighten up so we had to say goodbye.  But it was a nice time and it's great to connect with friends during these strange times.  Even though we ate in our cars, it was still nice to chat and feel somewhat normal.  We need to see our friends. We need to see someone outside our family circle.  Especially if we work from or stay at home.

Okay, onto this card.  The base of the card is a folded half-sheet of Flirty Flamingo card stock. I cut my card stock in half on the 8-1/2" side.  I scored the card at the 5-1/2" mark.  This card opens on the right and the fold is on the left.

4" x 5-1/4" piece of Merry Merlot was textured using the "Ornate Floral" embossing folder.  I taped a 6" piece of ribbon onto it.  I secured the ends of the ribbon with two pieces of scotch tape.  I tied a bow and set it aside.

I stamped the lady image from the "Senior Years" stamp set.  I got this set because it had some great sayings and one of them was for retirement.  I had requests for retirement cards but no stamp sets to make it happen.  Now I do.  I had stamped the image using black Memento ink.  I colored her in using my Blends pens.  I used light and dark Flirty Flamingo and light Night of Navy.  I ended up using the dark seaside spray because I thought the light Night of Navy was too dark.  The original card post said that both dark and light Night of Navy were used.  I don't know how she made it look so light because the light Night of Navy is pretty dark.  I colored her shirt in using light Flirty Flamingo. I did find that if you color with the fine tip end it's lighter than the brush end.  Again I found that Flirty Flamingo was a bit darker than the original image.

I colored her hair with the light fine tip Gray Granite.  Then I used the other end for some highlights.  So when you buy the two pens it's like you get four colors.

I die cut the image using the oval circle die and the scalloped oval die for the Flirty Flamingo layer. I taped those two pieces together and I added Dimensionals to the back.

I stamped the words on a 5/8" piece of Crumb Cake card stock using black Memento ink.

I cut a 5/8" piece of Flirty Flamingo card stock. I snipped the ends of both strips.  These strips measured 3" from the tip of the ribbon snipped point to the flat edge on the other end.  I taped these two pieces in place on the card.  I set the bow on to make sure that I could still read the words.  Once the strips were in place, I removed the backing on the Dimensionals and added the oval layers to the front of the card.

I set the bow in place using a couple of glue dots.  I don't know what the white dots were on the original card.  I may add some pearls if I can't find something that is more flat.  Maybe some white sequins????  It needs something.  And I'm even thinking of adding some tiny pearls on top of the pearls around her neck and maybe on the earrings.

This was a fun card to make and my friend that I had lunch with will be receiving this in the mail someday soon!

Thank you SO much for taking the time to stop by today,
Wanda
