Framed For You, Birthday Card, Stampin' Up! 2020-2021 Catalog

NEW STUFF!!!  My order arrived last night and I couldn't wait to play with this set.  I think UPS has changed their delivery times, it used to be until 8 pm but when I went to look at the package tracking it now shows 9 pm.  My order came around 7 pm. Orders usually come around 3 pm.  So in the meantime I had to clean in my workroom!  It was awful!!! LOL

I was particular excited about the "Framed For You" set because the demonstrator, Terri Gaines, I buy my stamps from designed it.  And I was meeting her today for coffee.  We call it "cop coffee".  It's where you park your car drivers door to drivers door and have a parking spot between you and you can chat.  But it was a gorgeous day so we sat under a tree in the shade and chatted for several hours.  It was a most wonderful day.  Sometimes we just need to have some outside contact to chat and catch up in these strange times.  Anyway, I worked on a card to give to her today.  It's totally from her set.  I REALLY like this set because it's not only got the birthday greetings, but there's a sending love & hugs, thinking of you and with sympathy.  Terri put a lot of thought into what should be in a stamp set.  I love the variety of words.  There's another small flower in the set, some greens, a texture background and tiny pine cones. Oh and of course the frame.  It's such a fun and versatile set.

To make my card you will need a folded half-sheet of So Saffron. I textured the front of the card using the "Ornate Floral" 3D embossing folder.  I think the little flowers are so sweet.  

I used the Split Coast Stampers layout number SC118.  I have not done a Sketch Challenge in a long time but I did save the printouts so I could repeat or do ones I have not done. I don't have all of the sketches, I think I quit somewhere around 400.  When I can't think of an idea for a card, I will go through the sketches that I put into a photo album and find something that the image I have will fit into and I run with it!  Today's card I wanted something more in the background. In the catalog the card sample used strips of Designer Series Paper (DSP).  I didn't want to do the strips thing so I looked through my layouts and this one caught my eye.

The DSP is from the new "Flowers for Every Season" 6" x 6" pack.  My piece measures 2-3/4" on the wide end and 1" on the narrow end.  I just folded a piece of copier paper in half and marked one end at 1-3/8" x 1/2" and drew a line to make the outside edge. I took my craft knife and a ruler and cut the line.  You can also do this with a scissors.  I marked my DSP and cut it on my paper cutter.  I also cut a piece of Early Espresso card stock 1/4" larger.  I taped the DSP to the card stock and I taped that to the front of the card, centering it as much as I could. 

I stamped the frame using Early Espresso ink.  I often have ink issues with stamps that have fine details. I tried to use as little ink as possible and I kept ruining my frames.  Then I took my sponge dauber and inked it up and then inked the stamp with it.  PERFECT!!!  It got the detail without any extra ink.  I took my square dies and cut out the outside and inside of the frame. 

I cut a 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" piece of Very Vanilla card stock and set it under the square. I traced the inside square on it so I could see my work area.

I stamped the ferny leaf using Pear Pizzaz ink. I pretty much stamped them in a circle around the center of the Very Vanilla piece.  The stems mostly met in the center of the Very Vanilla piece.  It doesn't matter if the do or don't, it won't show once the flowers were put on.

I stamped the five flowers using Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Mango Melody. I fussy cut them out.  Yup, I fussy cut!!! LOL   I erased my pencil marks and then I taped the Very Vanilla piece to the frame piece before I added the flowers. I set the flowers in place using Dimensionals. 

I cut a piece of Early Espresso about 1/4" larger than the frame and I taped it to the back of the frame.  I set the piece in place using Dimensionals. 

I stamped the words from the "Framed for You" set using black Memento ink.  I die cut them out with the smallest stitched oval die and then I die cut a scalloped oval of Early Espresso for the layer. I taped the two pieces together and I set them in place on the card using a Dimensional on the left side and snail tape on the right.

I added a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White to the inside of the card and the card was done.

It's SO cute and such a fun set to play with.  Plus it's VERY versatile.  I'm excited to play with it some more.  I was very picky with the sets I bought because of not only the cost but because I don't get to play with them enough before they retire.  I can see myself using this set for many other cards this year.
