I was trying to find a stamp set to play with today and I ran across the "Winter Woods" set. I have not played with it in a while and actually I have not played with it much at all. So all the more reason to take it off the shelf and have some fun
I stamped the trees from the Winter Woods set using Versa Mark. I stamped them twice on Whisper White card stock. I used a 4" x 5-1/4" which I cut down later. I made sure I stamped the trees low on the card stock. I was going to have some ground showing but it turned out SO ugly that I had to cut it off. I know I share the good, the bad and the ugly with you, but this one was beyond ugly!!! LOL Once I cut off the foreground the card looked SO much better. But then I had a short card. We'll discuss that part a bit later. I embossed the trees using white embossing powder.
I sponged on some inks for the background. I made a 1" circle mask for the moon. Much like yesterday's card, I sponged on some Bermuda Bay first. Then some Pacific Point over it, making sure I started at the top and left most of the ink up there. As I went down the card (rolling the brayer across from side to side), the color got lighter. And then the last color was Night of Navy. When I was done with inking the sky, I did go over the moon lightly so it wasn't SO bright.
I used my Chalk pen for the stars. I just took the cap, inserted the tip of the pen on the edge and flicked the tip so the Chalk ink would splatter. And yes, I did ruin my pen tip. It's not like the other markers, it's more brittle. So I guess I will keep that one for flicking and buy a new one for writing. Live and learn!
I will tell you what I did to the foreground but I won't show you (besides, it's cut off and in the recycling waste basket). I sponged on some Mossy Meadow and it was too green, even though it was the darkest green I had. SO I sponged on some Crumb Cake, which made it even uglier. Then I took it to the paper cutter and cut it off at the edge where the trunks met the tree branches, resulting in a short card. It measured 5" x 2-7/8". SO to make that part better, I cut another 1/4" off one side. Then I cut a 5-1/4" x 3-1/8" piece of Night of Navy for the layer. I taped the two pieces together.

Next I set them on top of the card to see where the words would go. I knew I needed some long words and these were the longest I had. They are from the "Itty Bitty Christmas" set. I stamped them using Night of Navy ink.
I set the layered image piece in place using Dimensionals and the card was done. It's an okay card. Not the look I was going for but it is what it is.
I can't believe it's only two days until Christmas and then no more Christmas sets. Though the one "Snow Front" set can be used for some winter birthday cards. I may resort to that one until I send in my order from the spring catalog.
