Here's a Card, Heirloom Frames, Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper, Birthday Card

I took Labor Day off for some much needed R & R but look what I found while I was playing on the computer and surfing the net.  Isn't it pretty?   I LOVE it.  You can see the original card here.  I did change it a lot though.

The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Blushing Bride card stock.  On top of that is a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Basic Black that I textured using the "Lace" embossing folder.  I taped that piece in place.

I bought the "Heirloom Frames" dies and was starting to regret it until I saw the original card. I was thrilled.  So I got out my gold foil card stock and my Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP) and off I went to play.

One thing I did that I don't need to do the next time I make one of these is, I cut the DSP with the oval cutting die that comes with the "Heirloom" dies.  All I needed to do was cut the DSP by hand and fit what I wanted to in the opening.  Live and learn and then pass it on so other's don't make the same mistake!

I embossed the oval and then used the oval die to cut it out. It cuts around the oval and it cuts the center out.  BAD idea.  Cut the oval first and then do the embossing.  The embossing folder is thin enough to see through to get your DSP or card stock lined up nicely.  After getting my foil paper lined up, I embossed it and sat down to assemble the card.  I put my DSP behind the oval and cut around the piece, being sure to cut a little smaller than the gold foil oval so none of the DSP showed.  Now I had already cut my DSP on the Big Shot, so I had to tape my inside oval back in place and then I just trimmed around the outer edge a bit to none of it showed through the edges of the gold foil oval. And then I didn't have to think about getting it 100%  perfect.  Though I actually did because the inside oval had been cut and I needed to hide the cut lines, or in my case, line them up with the inside edges of the gold foil oval.  Once I got that all lined up, I taped the two pieces together and then taped them onto the Basic Black embossed card stock.

I fussy cut two flowers from the DSP.  One of the flowers had a flower attached to it and I also cut a flower bud and some leaves from the scraps that were laying on my worktable from cutting out the flowers.

The words are from the "Here's a Card" set. I stamped them on Whisper White card stock using black Memento ink.  I die cut them using the oval stitched die.  I die cut a gold scalloped oval. I used the gold oval that came from the center of my embossed oval. Nothing goes to waste!  And I also cut a black oval for the back of the gold scalloped oval.  I taped the ovals together.  I added a Dimensional to the back left side of the oval and a few small glue dots to the back right. I set the word piece in place.  Then I added some Dimensionals to the flowers and set them in place.  The flower bud was set in place on the top right side of the words.  I also tucked a leaf in there using snail tape to hold it.  I added a few leaves here and there. Some I added Dimensionals on the back to hold them in place and others I just taped in place.  It's so pretty with all of those extra leaves.  I think there were five in all.

And for the final touch on the front, I added some gold pearls from the "Metallic Pearls" package.  A 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White on the inside and the card was finished.

Do you like it?  I think it's SO pretty.  I'm hoping to find some other uses for the embossed oval.  Also there is an embossed rectangle in that package too.  I need to get creative here and think of some things to do with the rectangle and more with the oval.

Thank you SO much for visiting today,
Wanda
