Sailing Home, Masculine Birthday Card, 2019-2020 Stampin' Up! Catalog

I found a fun card on Pinterest that used the "Sailing Home" set.  I made a few little changes.  You can see the original card here. 

The base of the card is a folded half-sheet of Whisper White card stock.  This card is folded on the left and opens on the right.

On top of the card base is a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Night of Navy that was textured using the new "High Seas" embossing folder.  I had to use a shim (a piece of thick cardboard from some glitter paper) because the die seemed a bit thin.  I taped the embossed piece onto the card base.

I cut a 1-3/4" x 5-1/4" strip of the "Come Sail Away" Designer Series Paper (DSP). I punched the end with the "Triple Banner" punch.  I used to struggle with how long I needed to cut my strips to punch the ends.  Many times I would just punch a long strip and trim it at the top.  But all you need to do is know how long you want it and add 1/4".  Once it's punched it's back to the length you wanted.  As simple as that!  I taped the strip on top of the  Night of Navy embossed piece.

Then I cut a 3-1/2" x 2-1/4" piece of the striped DSP from the same "Come Sail Away" DSP package.  I taped it in place on the card.

I die cut a strip, it looks like a rope.  It's from the "Smooth Sailing" die cuts.  I die cut it using Crumb Cake card stock.  I glued it in place across the center of the striped DSP piece.

Using Whisper White card stock, I die cut a stitched circle using the largest circle die.  I stamped the sail boat and birds from the "Sailing Home" set using Night of Navy ink.  Then I stamped the words from the "Itty Bitty Greetings" set. I colored in the mast and cabin using my Crumb Cake marker.  I added some Smoky Slate marker to the left sides of the sails.  And the Real Red marker was used to color the boat. I didn't use the Blends Pens because the ink was not dye based.  Night of Navy ink is water based and the Blends Pens could make the ink bleed.  I have tried coloring over water based inks.  It can be done if you are REALLY fast!  I didn't want to take any chances because I didn't want to have to redo it!  After the coloring was done, I set the circle in place using Dimensionals.  

And for the final touch, I die cut the knotted rope image using Crumb Cake card stock.  I glued it in place and the card was done.

This was a fun masculine card to make!  Super easy and quick.
