Guy Greetings, Masculine Birthday Card, Embossing Paste Technique

Today I was at Terri's fun Stamping Extravaganza.  That is where you get to see all of the newest items in the catalog and you can see free demonstrations.  I was demonstrating the "Embossing Paste".  I have had fun with this technique in the past and I was thrilled to see that Stampin' Up! is not carrying it.  I have a container of what is called "Paper Paste", it's the same thing as "Embossing Paste". But when comparing the two, I found the Stampin' Up! brand better.  It was much creamier and smoother to work with.  It's a bit looser too, not so thick, but it's not runny either.  It's like the consistency of cold cream that has a light scent of interior house paint, which I find to be a pleasant smell.  Though I only smelled that smell when I put my nose to the container.  While I was working with it I didn't smell a thing.

So, for this card I had taken some of the "Embossing Paste" and mixed in one drop of Chocolate Chip inker.  Then I used the bricks mask available in the new catalog.  I took one of the pallet knives from the new set and smeared the paste over the mask until I got it where I wanted it and then I scraped it off with a wider pallet knife.  I set it aside to dry while I worked on the other components of the card.

For the card and the words I used the "Guy Greetings" set.  I stamped  the car and words using Early Espresso ink.  I die cut them out with the oval dies.  I used Early Espresso card stock for the oval layers and for the base of this card.

It's very simple to do. I had a great time playing with the paste and also making this card!  The paste leaves such a nice background texture on the card.  I found that if (before removing the mask) I put a little bit of paste on a sponge I could get the paste to lift up a bit higher and make a rougher texture that felt and looked more like brick.  I added a little paste to the sponge because a dry sponge would just lift off the paste you initially set down.  You could also use a different color paste to sponge on to get an even deeper depth.  There's SO many fun things you can do with this "Embossing Paste".
