Weekend Project! Rubber Band Book

Here is something I came up with that is pretty fun! I used the Sahara Sand "Long Notes" from the Stampin' Up! Spring mini catalog and I used the Petals & Paisleys Designer paper from the same catalog. You don't need the Long Notes to make this, you can use regular card stock. I used the Long Notes because I liked the way they are folded in half. It was easy to work with.

To make this you take your card stock and score it about 1 1/2" to 2" in. If you click on the photo you can make out the score line on the cover. I did cut one card in half so I could wrap it in the decorative paper for a front and back cover. First you need to take your small square punch and punch half way in on each side. You will need to move the punch over and punch again to equal a punch and a half in width. In other words, you want the punched out piece to be the size of your rubber band. It's best to make a template and trace the punched out area on the card stock and punch it out. This way you can be sure that it is equal on each side. If you look closely at the cover of the book you will see there is a small piece under the rubber band. This piece is measured from the edge of the book to the fold. You will need to make and decorate two, one for the front and one for the back. You will also need to make a few undecorated ones (from matching card stock) and slip them in between the pages. This will help keep the book balanced from when you add photos, etc. You will be adhering these pieces on. If you don't they will slip out. You will know how many you need as you fill up your book with photos and other memorabilia. You can add two or three to a single page. Again, you'll be able to tell how many you actually need. Because it's a rubber band book you can take out pages, add more stuff to the pages, add more pages and put the book back together with ease. If the rubber band breaks, well . . . you just add a new one. There are some fun rubber bands out there too. I've seen some great ones with words embedded in the rubber. Those would be a lot of fun to use on these books. I made one all about my grandma. I have one page left to do on it and I'll post it on here. It was a LOT of fun to make and I think it turned out very well.

Have fun decorating your Rubber Band Book! I'd LOVE to see your creations. Email me with your photos!
Thank you for checking in on my blog!

This is one of those ideas where I go - why couldn't I think of that? I love the mini books, and my daughter has started to make them as well. This is a great project for her to do with friends, or even for girlscouts! Thanks for my weekend inspiration!!!
